Remember the movie Home Alone?  Here's a real-life version from yahoo.com: a family picked up by a taxi from the airport left a sleeping child at the back of the minivan.

The cab driver did get to return the kid to his family and got a $50 tip.  End of story?  Nope.  He was almost suspended from work because of the incident!

happy kidAs an adult, I'm a believer of doing at least one good deed each day.  Simple things like taking out the garbage, helping out a friend, or kind words to stangers are enough to make my day a little better.  I was mildly surprised when I came across this article from medicalnewstoday.com that promotes the same exercise to children.

Here's another helpful tip when trying to teach toddlers: use hand gestures.  Psychologists from the University of Chicago say that pointing and other hand movements help babies understand language at an earlier stage. (Source: buzzle.com)

Ever wonder what children go through in times of war and strife?  The horrors that they witness are so great children are often times called the greatest casualties of war.

To help their continuing development, UNICEF will be giving away packages known as The Early Childhood Development Kits in war-torn countries.  These kits include toys and coloring materials.  Read more from John Curtis' article in vsobahaginan.org.ph.

Considered by many as a classic family movie, The Iron Giant is a 1999 animated film about a boy who found a giant robot which fell from outer space.  Annie, the boy's mother, was voiced by Jeniffer Aniston while the Iron Giant was Vin Diesel's.

If your child asks you why giraffes have long necks, you may reply scientifically: it's all about natural selection.  There was a time that long- and short-necked girrafes lived.  When there were few grasses to eat, long-necked giraffes could eat food found on trees that the short-necked ones cannot reach.  Hence, long necks lived longer.

Try this fun activity from science magazine Yes Mag to further help explain what natural selection is all about.  Enjoy!
